The Royal Australian Mint, in collaboration with the Australian Honey Bee Industry Council, is delighted to introduce a coin that pays tribute to the remarkable honey bee and the thriving honey bee industry in Australia. This year, in 2022, we celebrate the bicentenary of the industry's establishment, marking two centuries of dedication and devotion to this vital aspect of our nation's agriculture. The coin's design is nothing short of spectacular, enhanced by vibrant colors, making it an irresistible addition to collectors' treasures.

Introduced to our shores in 1822, the European honey bee has not only survived but thrived, adapting to Australia's diverse climate and native flora. These resilient pollinators have played a pivotal role in producing the majority of the delectable honey that graces Australian tables. While Australia boasts over 1,500 native honeybee species, they tend to be less prolific honey producers compared to their European counterparts.

In spite of their diminutive stature and relatively short lifespans, honey bees offer so much more than just sweet nectar. They are esteemed as a vital agricultural asset, providing invaluable free pollination services that result in higher-quality crops and increased yields. The economic impact of honey bee pollination in Australia is staggering, contributing an estimated $4 to $6 billion to our nation's economy.

Across this vast and diverse land, approximately 20,000 registered beekeepers labor with dedication, managing over 640,000 hives, which collectively yield up to an astonishing 30,000 tonnes of honey each year. This golden treasure travels far and wide, gracing tables in nearly 40 countries around the globe, from Canada and China to Malaysia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and, naturally, right here in Australia.

The honey bee's industriousness and the Australian honey bee industry's resilience are a source of national pride. This coin serves as a symbol of gratitude and respect for these tiny yet mighty creatures and the dedicated individuals who tend to them, ensuring that the legacy of honey production and pollination endures for generations to come.

Common terms:

UNC: Uncirculated â€“ These coins have not reached “commerce circulation” and are taken directly from Ram (Royal Australian Mint) rolls and bags.

Uncirculated coins are made using the same method as circulating coins but are struck multiple times with greater force, resulting in a cleaner coin.

These days security rolls (Armaguard/Prosegur) &/or security bags are also classified as UNC by the general public.

*Please note that due to the high-speed production techniques, even uncirculated coins may show slight imperfections such as minor bag marks or tiny rim indentations*.

aUNC: Almost uncirculated – These coins have been found in circulation; however, they look brand spanking new.

CIRC: Circulated – These coins vary in quality, i handpick every coin to ensure that the coin you receive is lightly circulated and is not junk, there will be no coin cancer (any greening/major toning), some coins may have lost some luster. Generally speaking, these coins have been in the hands of the general public and used as change in one point in their life.

PACKAGING:

To ensure safe arrival, every effort is made to package the coins in a safe & secured manner to avoid damage and loss during transit.

All coins are handled with cotton gloves.

All coins are sold in “As found condition” and have not been cleaned or polished by me in any way.

Orders with 3 or less coins are packaged with heavy duty LDPE zip lock bags or 2x2 coin holders (Both are PVC free, so you may leave it in the original packaging for long term storage)

Orders with 4 or more coins are vacuum sealed (These bags have a PE liner, so you may leave them in the original packaging for long term storage).

POSTAGE/HANDLING:

Since the queen’s passing, we have received unprecedented demand for these coins and have had to increase our handling time. Our team is working hard and diligently to have your coins shipped out as soon as possible.

All orders under the value of $50 are sent with free untracked postage (It is recommended to purchase tracked postage @$3.50).

All orders above the value of $50 are sent with free tracked postage.

There are options to add tracked postage if your order falls below $50 or express postage when purchasing your coins.
